Leather Effecto

by Hüseyin Erdoğmuş

Rum opens rich and boozy, backed straight away by bittersweet, spicy saffron. Nutmeg adds a gentle warmth. It is a boozy, spicy and luxurious opening. Jasmine appears at the heart, floral and soft, in elegant contrast with the spice. In the base, vanilla turns softly creamy. Sandalwood calms it all down. Labdanum, amber and musk form a resinous, sensual accord. A leather effect emerges subtly, never aggressive, simply abstract and elegant. A beautiful duality: soft and brutal, sweet and rough, floral and earthy.

The fragrance

As soon as it opens, rum hits you rich and boozy, seductive. Saffron stings, spicy and bitter. Nutmeg warms it gradually. It is a sumptuous sensation, warm and sensual.
Jasmine arrives as a soft counterpoint at the heart. Floral and white, it softens without eclipsing the spice. It is an elegant moment of transition.
Gradually, the base takes over. Vanilla turns creamy. Sandalwood soothes and gives structure. Labdanum becomes earthy and resinous. Amber intensifies. Musk brings an animalic, powdery sensuality. The leather effect emerges gradually, abstract, never raw. This duality is what fascinates: creamy softness and subtle roughness, sugary sweetness and an underlying darkness.

The brand

Attar Al Has is a perfume house founded in Istanbul in 2021 by Ersin Bas and Sinan Karakas. Its name refers to the tradition of the ‘attar’, the artisan perfumer who extracts, distils and blends raw materials using age-old techniques. The house follows this heritage without trying to reproduce it identically. It develops a contemporary style drawing on references from oriental perfumery. Its positioning rests on a meeting point between different olfactory cultures. Heir to a territory historically situated between East and West, Attar Al Has builds its fragrances by pairing emblematic raw materials such as oud, amber, saffron or spices with more modern structures. The compositions are developed with perfumers from varied backgrounds, from both European and Middle Eastern perfumery, so as to cross approaches rather than set them against each other. This principle also carries through to the bottle design, inspired by Ottoman decorative codes. Conceived as crafted objects, the bottles extend the attention paid to materials and craftsmanship. Attar Al Has thus develops a perfumery built on historical references, while placing them in a contemporary setting.
