The Moon

by Julien Rasquinet

A night that is both dense and luminous, where everything grows more intense under the moon. The Moon by Frédéric Malle is set on a full night, silent yet charged. The moon lights everything without warming it, revealing shapes, materials and excesses.

Who it's for, when to wear it

A unisex fragrance, oud and fruity. Wear it on a date, for a dressy night out and on special occasions. Powerful sillage: it leaves a trail others will notice across the room. Top notes: raspberry, lychee, saffron, blackberry. Heart notes: red berries, Turkish rose, redcurrant, frankincense resin. Base notes: oud, leather, amber, patchouli. Composed by Julien Rasquinet.

How to wear it

Two or three sprays are plenty: on the neck, the wrists and your clothes, where the base notes hold on longest. It lasts better on moisturised skin; in hot weather, a single spray may be enough.

The fragrance

The Moon draws on Middle Eastern nights, when the heat lingers even after sunset and moonlight gives everything another dimension.

From the opening, an immediate richness comes through. Dark, almost liqueur-like fruits blend with spices and a dense rose, creating a feeling of depth.

Then the fragrance grows broader still. Oud and resins take up more space, laying down a dark, thick, almost endless material.

Over time, The Moon stays present, warm and intense, with a trail that never fades. A night that lasts and clings to the skin, like a light that never quite disappears.

The brand

Les Éditions de Parfums Frédéric Malle was born in 2000 from a simple, radical conviction. Frédéric Malle, grandson of the founder of Parfums Christian Dior, a former evaluator at Givaudan, trained in art history and photography, started from an observation: the world's greatest perfumers work in the shadows, constrained by marketing briefs, limited budgets and imposed deadlines. Nobody knows their names. He decided to turn that logic on its head. His model is not a perfume house. It is a publishing house, modelled on the literary world. Frédéric Malle chooses his authors, gives them complete carte blanche, no brief, no time constraints, and signs each bottle with the name of its creator. Dominique Ropion, Jean-Claude Ellena, Maurice Roucel, Olivia Giacobetti, Pierre Bourdon: some of the most respected noses in the industry, who for the first time could compose without compromise and publicly own their work. Portrait of a Lady, Carnal Flower and Musc Ravageur have become absolute benchmarks of contemporary perfumery. The bottle follows the same philosophy: neutral, pared back, minimalist, designed so that nothing distracts from the fragrance and its author. No muse, no advertising campaign. The house's reputation was built by word of mouth and by the strength of the juices themselves. A house that changed how an entire industry sees its own craft.
