Plum Cream

by Tanguy Guesnet

A soft, creamy plum, between freshness and comfort. Plum Cream takes its inspiration from a fruit worked into a soft, creamy texture, with that idea of contrast between the liveliness of the plum and something rounder and cosier.

The fragrance

Plum Cream revisits the Japanese plum, better known as umeboshi, eaten after a long maceration in salt. This saltiness brings out umami flavours, the famous fifth taste, interpreted in perfumery through a salted plum enhanced with rum, davana and cistus, giving an exceptional complexity and a fruity, leathery sensuality.

Plum Cream has an elegant, almost gourmand mood, but with a certain restraint.

The plum brings a slightly tart, juicy facet that adds relief from the opening. It is not too sweet, rather balanced, with that slightly dark side of ripe fruit. Then the texture becomes creamier and smoother, as if the fruit were softened by a milky material.

Over time, the fragrance blends further, becoming softer and more comfortable, while keeping that fruity signature in the background. The whole stays fluid, balancing freshness and softness.

A symbol of longevity, plums, or dried plums, have been enjoyed for centuries for their sweet and tart flavours. Adding salt enhances their natural sweetness and gives them a savoury touch.

The brand

Obvious is a French fragrance house founded in 2020 by David Frossard, a discreet but essential figure in niche perfumery. A former distributor who spent more than twenty years supporting the rise of Byredo, Juliette Has A Gun, Atelier Cologne and Liquides Imaginaires, he founded Obvious after a path that was as philosophical as it was professional. Because before perfume came philosophy, and it was in Descartes that he found his brand's name: self-evidence, that moment when truth presents itself without needing any explanation. His starting point is an admission: niche perfume had lost its way. Too much convoluted storytelling, too much ostentation, too many screens between the juice and the person wearing it. Obvious is his answer: strip away everything that hides, everything that serves to justify a price rather than give pleasure. The bottle is made from recycled glass, the alcohol is organic, the cap is cork from offcuts of wine-stopper production and the packaging is paper with no cellophane. Not a marketing move, but consistency. David Frossard did not create a green brand, he made an honest one. Less is more. This is obvious.
