Ambre Papier

by Céline Perdriel

A dry, delicate amber, like the touch of a sheet of paper. Ambre Papier puts forward a very pared-back, almost abstract amber, a material you feel more than you understand. This is not a heavy or classic oriental amber, but something dry, delicate, almost airy, that recalls the feel of paper.

The fragrance

Ambre Papier opens on a soft, lightly resinous feel, with a warmth that is discreet but present. The amber then unfolds, but in a transparent way, as if filtered, with a slightly powdery, dry side that gives it great elegance. The fragrance then settles closer to the skin, with musks and woods that bring a soft, clean texture. There is something very minimalist about it, almost silent, like a scent that stays close to the skin and reveals itself slowly. It is a very modern amber fragrance, subtle and finely crafted, that plays more on texture and sensation than on power.

The brand

Atelier Materi is a French perfume house founded in 2019 by Véronique Le Bihan, who comes from Brittany. These roots show in the brand’s identity, shaped by raw, mineral landscapes and by an approach to perfume centred on raw materials. Each fragrance is built around one main ingredient, worked to bring out its different facets rather than diluted in a complex structure. The compositions remain legible, with a limited number of materials arranged to support this central axis. The house’s world also draws on references to architecture, seeking clean lines, structure and balance. This carries through to the design of the objects, notably a blue-tinted glass bottle and a hand-shaped concrete cap, both the result of craft work. Finally, Atelier Materi favours closely supervised production, relying on known partners and artisanal know-how, with manufacturing mostly carried out in Europe.
