The Arquiste house
Behind Arquiste is Carlos Huber, an architect by training and a historian specialising in heritage restoration. Used to bringing old buildings back to life, he applies the same method to perfume: he starts from historical research, archives and cultural references, then translates them into scent. His aim is not to vaguely suggest a mood, but to reconstruct a real scene, with its setting, its period and its smells. A convent in colonial Mexico, a 17th-century merchant ship, a London club in the 1930s: each bottle captures a precise moment in history. The writing, however, stays resolutely contemporary, in service of the story. Wearing an Arquiste means treating yourself to a journey through time.
