The fragrance

Nanban takes us back to January 1618, to the middle of the Pacific Ocean, aboard a Japanese galleon laden with treasures and stories. On board, a delegation of samurai crosses dark waters, surrounded by Spanish leather, black pepper and precious spices from distant lands. The atmosphere is dense, mysterious, almost solemn, like an expedition out of time. The perfume renders this crossing with a rich, spicy opening, where dark notes immediately create a sense of depth. The fragrance then becomes more textured, blending leather, wood and gourmand nuances that recall the goods carried in the ship’s hold. You feel an cocooning, almost stifling warmth, like air heavy with spices and precious materials. Over time, the scent gains further intensity with resins and amber notes that heighten its mysterious, majestic character. The result is a rich, complex and immersive fragrance, between voyage, history and noble materials.

The brand

Arquiste is a perfume house founded by Carlos Huber, an architect by training and a historian specialising in heritage preservation. The brand rests on a singular approach to perfume: each creation is conceived as the reconstruction of a precise moment, rooted in a place and a period. Carlos Huber develops his fragrances from historical research, archives and cultural references, which he then translates into a composition. The aim is not to interpret a mood freely, but to rebuild a scene. Each fragrance therefore corresponds to a defined situation, a date, a setting, an atmosphere. A bedroom, a garden, a voyage, a frozen instant, brought back through raw materials. Arquiste’s olfactory writing remains contemporary, but always serves this narrative intention. Perfume becomes a way of travelling through time.
