BORNTOSTANDOUT, often abbreviated to BTSO, was founded in Seoul in April 2022. Its founder, Jun Lim, left a career in investment banking to create the fragrances he couldn’t find anywhere else: compositions that break the rules rather than seeking to please the masses. The names set the tone, as do the bottles, in traditional Korean porcelain white accented with a bold red. With the Extrait Extrême collection, the house pushes its approach to the limit: concentrations of 55 to 62%, an overdose of natural oud and three months of ageing in onggi, the earthenware jars used to mature Korean fermented foods. To compose them, Jun Lim works with renowned perfumers such as Quentin Bisch, Jordi Fernández, Violaine Collas and Maxime Exler. The result: dark gourmands, tropical fruits steeped in oud, and spices that last from morning to the next day.
