Long-lasting perfume: 10 niche fragrances with powerful sillage

Bottle of Mujahid by Ralyss, a long-lasting oud and rose extrait de parfum

A long-lasting perfume is, above all, a perfume with a solid base: amber, oud, musk, vanilla, leather or resins. Concentration helps, your skin does the rest. These are the ten I hand over at the Sayhar counter on rue de Marignan when someone tells me 'my perfume vanishes after an hour', all rated powerful sillage on our product pages. The three to remember: Mujahid, Kryptonite Absolu and Musc Ravageur.

Why a perfume lasts (or disappears within an hour)

Three things affect longevity.

Base notes are what stay

A fragrance evaporates in stages. The top notes (citrus, fruit) go first; the base stays: amber, oud, musk, vanilla, leather, patchouli, resins. A fragrance that lasts has a rich base.

Concentration helps, but it is not everything

With the same notes, an extrait lasts longer than an eau de parfum. But a citrus extrait can fade faster than an amber eau de parfum.

Your skin and your nose

Dry skin holds fragrance less well than moisturised skin. And your nose gets used to it: you stop smelling your fragrance while other people still can.

Notes, sillage and prices as shown on our product pages on 12 October 2026.

1. Mujahid by Ralyss: the oud-rose extrait built to last

Mujahid by Ralyss perfume bottle, oud and rose extrait de parfumRalyss · Extrait de parfum€230 for 100 mlView product →
  • Notes: raspberry and saffron at the top; Taif rose, oud and leather next; labdanum, patchouli and vanilla in the base.
  • Family: oud, fruity. Sillage: strong. Composed by: Jean-Bernard Albani.
  • The highlight: an extrait de parfum, 'designed to leave a lasting impression', says the product page.
  • Who / when: if you want an oud that opens on fruit. For every day. New to oud? Read our guide.
  • My take: the first one I reach for when someone says 'my perfume doesn't last'. The raspberry opens, the oud-leather base stays.

2. Kryptonite Absolu by Khalil T.: more than 10 hours on skin

Kryptonite Absolu by Khalil T. perfume bottle, caramel and sandalwood perfumeKhalil T.€150 for 50 mlView product →
  • Notes: toffee caramel at the top, white sandalwood in the heart, praline almonds in the base.
  • Family: woody, gourmand. Sillage: strong.

  • Who / when: if you want a gourmand that gets noticed, in the evening and in winter. See also our sweet perfumes.
  • My take: the fragrance from my own house that I recommend when longevity comes first. Two or three sprays on moisturised skin are enough.

How to make your perfume last longer

  • On moisturised skin, straight after a shower, with an unscented cream.
  • Neck, nape of the neck, wrists, without rubbing: rubbing smothers the top notes.
  • One spray on your clothes or a scarf, where fragrance lasts longer. Avoid silk and pale fabrics.
  • Don't put any more on just because you can't smell it anymore: your nose has gotten used to it. Ask the people around you.
  • In very hot weather, a single spray may be enough.

Try before you buy

Longevity is judged on your skin, over a whole day. At the Sayhar boutique, 27 rue de Marignan, Paris 8th (Champs-Élysées, open Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 8pm and Sunday from 12pm to 8pm), put a fragrance on when you arrive and judge it in the evening. At home, the 9 ml sizes from Khalil T. (Santal Cashmere and Kiss, €45) and the Khalil T. discovery set (five samples, €35) let you test over several days. Far from Paris? The Scent Matchmaker suggests three perfumes in five questions, and every order ships with samples.

FAQ

Which niche perfume lasts the longest?

It depends on the base, the concentration and your skin. Here, Mujahid and Ambra Primordia are extraits, and the product page for Kryptonite Absolu promises more than 10 hours on skin.

Why doesn't my perfume last on me?

Usually: dry skin, a fragrance made mostly of top notes (citrus, fruit), rubbed wrists, or your nose getting used to it. Ask the people around you before reapplying.

Extrait or eau de parfum: which lasts longer?

With the same notes, the extrait, as it is more concentrated. But the notes matter just as much: a citrus extrait can fade faster than an amber eau de parfum.

Can a fresh perfume last a long time?

Yes, if it sits on a solid base: God Of Fire lays mango over amber and oud, Krypto Night Absolu its citrus over ambergris, Fleur de Sable its bergamot over myrrh. The freshness goes first.
