Before it was a house, ānti was the name of the very first known perfume, a sacred preparation from ancient Egypt. Anti Parfum brings these forgotten scents back to life in 7 creations: Antinoüs, Bast, Dukes Carpet, Le Jardinier, Nashi Toro, Paura Dell’Acqua and Rosa Antiqua, to discover at Sayhar, rue de Marignan in Paris 8th, or online.
The Anti house
ānti was born in Paris from the meeting of Larissa Sugaipova, who came from marketing and niche perfumery, and Brieuc Larsonneur, an architect by training specialising in luxury boutique concepts. Their idea: to turn perfume into a time machine. Rather than invent a heritage, the house practises what it calls olfactory archaeology. It starts from excavation finds, ancient manuscripts and materials sometimes preserved for millennia, then entrusts these stories to renowned perfumers, Sidonie Lancesseur, Marc-Antoine Corticchiato and Karine Vinchon-Spehner, to give them a modern voice. Each bottle carries a true story: the Egypt of the pharaohs, Pompeii, the Italian Renaissance, Marie Antoinette’s Petit Trianon or a 1950s London club. The design, sober and geometric, draws on the Bauhaus, a way of leaving all the room to the story and the materials.
Anti perfumes available at Sayhar
Antinoüs: by Marc-Antoine Corticchiato, a tribute to Emperor Hadrian’s young favourite, who drowned in the Nile, with clary sage, pepper, cumin, vetiver and sandalwood.
Bast: composed by Sidonie Lancesseur, a reinterpretation of the Egyptian perfume that gave the house its name, incense and cardamom, saffron and cypriol, then myrrh and amber.
Dukes Carpet: by Karine Vinchon-Spehner, a dry martini in the London club where Ian Fleming dreamt up his spy, Amalfi lemon, ginger and cardamom, gin and juniper, then cedarwood and old wood.
Le Jardinier: the morning after a party at the Petit Trianon, lilies plunged into champagne buckets, cut grass, mastic, magnolia, honeysuckle, nettle and galbanum.
Nashi Toro: by Karine Vinchon-Spehner, inspired by nashi pear seeds unearthed at the Toro site in Japan, hinoki and black pepper, iris, ambrette and incense, then moss, earth and rice bran.
Paura Dell’Acqua: the Italian Renaissance, when perfume took the place of bathing, petitgrain, mandarin and ginger, tuberose, jasmine and rose, then tonka bean and cistus.
Rosa Antiqua: an extrait found in Pompeii, a Damask rose and an olive oil accord, lifted with blackcurrant, cashmere wood and birch.
Which Anti perfume should you choose?
For sparkling, elegant freshness: Dukes Carpet. For florals: Le Jardinier on the green, luminous side, Paura Dell’Acqua on the white, opulent side, or Rosa Antiqua for rose. For spice and incense: Bast or Antinoüs. For a calm, meditative fragrance of woods and iris: Nashi Toro. All Anti Parfum creations are unisex and come in 100 ml.
